First cover audience
Before creating my audience profile I created a short survey to help enable me to create a well loved issue that will be tailored to a similar age range of the people who participated (16-25). The feedback that I gained from this survey helped me narrow down the topics and ideologies that are favoured as well as hugely disliked and I took all of these opinions into consideration and applied them to my covers.
For my first cover I will be aiming to tailor it to 16-25 year olds who all have a mutual liking towards fashion and lifestyle. The end goal for this magazine cover is to appeal to a female demographic and as well as a multi-cultural audience due to the inclusion of a range of articles featured that is tailored to all age ranges that'll discuss different cultures around the world. The lifestyle of the niche audience for this magazine will be varied but will commonly be more A-B class due to the brands and topics that'll be included. I will be following the inspiration of Vogue magazine and applying it to my work. Additionally, I will be constructing this cover based of well known fashion magazine covers that are loved world wide and include classic magazine conventions to make it identifiable by the reader. Subjects discussed in this first issue will include topics such as, fragrance, which will discuss the top selling perfume of that month , high-end brands that are trending that month as well as celebrity news and tips and tricks from well known fashion stylists and more. The reasoning behind these specific topics is because they are relevant to my niche audience and can link with their hobbies and interests as well as also introducing them to some possibly new products and topics which they may have not been so familiar with prior to reading this first issue. Which, as a result, will appeal to my audience from the look of the cover. The main image I use for the front cover will be inspired by high fashion magazines and would include the same colour pallet and theme to make the cover look harmonious and professional to the reader and creates an eye-catching first impression. Uniqueness and inclusivity is the one thing I will be aiming to show in my first cover to help it stand out from the mainstream magazines and to also help break the social norms of "perfection" that we see on nearly every cover that has been heavily photoshopped and altered to look favourable by the public.
My second cover will be aimed towards a different direction from my first cover which will hopefully create a contrast between the two yet will link them both due to the same lifestyle genre used. This cover will also be aimed to 16-25 year olds and all cultures but won't be aimed to a certain gender, race or social class. This is to enable the audience to be more open and varied and to allow the issue to adhere to everyone interests. The main interests that'll link with my audience will be commonly tips and tricks and world wide topics that all link back to fashion. For example, the Met gala , but I will zoom in on looks that are more traditional and unique. My aim for this cover is to break stereotypes and gender "norms" by portraying a male on the cover but in a different way which will be a "breath of fresh air" in a fashion magazine since these photos will not be heavily photoshopped which is commonly done in magazine covers that helps to create a false reality for the audience and my intention for this cover is to be as authentic as possible and portray males in a different light from what can be usually seen on the shelves. The lifestyle of my niche audience for this cover will be very diverse and varied due to the covers different selling points which will enable to maximise the importance of varied stories so they will appeal to a diverse audience. Stereotypes of men are portrayed all throughout the media and I thought it was an important topic which would be interesting to contrast with and show through my cover. Due to this cover being aimed at all genders and cultures, I will be including stories that are from around the world that link closely with fashion and relevant news stories that'll entice the reader despite them possibly not being familiar with the story. As well as stereotypes being highlighted in the media other minority cultures are in the shadows which minimalizes exposure to the public. In my opinion it can be both educational and beneficial if other cultures got more positive representation in the media and I will be striving to execute this in my cover. Both my covers will have linked conventions such as the same masthead and font. The reasoning behind this is so the magazine company remains identifiable by the reader for future publications that will be released.
My desired audience member
My ideal audience member would be any race and gender gender, 18 years old or of similar age which will increase the chance of them knowing social news and on going trends and someone who will be intrigued to stay updated with new trends and tips for the next upcoming months. A mutual interest for both fashion and the news revolving around fashion which would result in the news stories being discussed becoming relevant to the audience member and could play a helpful role in shaping their opinion on certain aspects of life. One thing really important for my desired audience is the awareness of not just the positives in the world but also negatives and the want and ideology to stop and change this. This is desired for my audience since this will be a mutual ideology coming from the magazine and I think it is very important if both the publication and the reader share the same opinions and outlooks on certain subjects. A open minded audience member who is willing to be educated on new varied topics is very important since in each issue, different topics will be discussed which might not be everyone's go to topic but if they are open to reading unfamiliar stories, it can positively effect them and result in them feeling educated and wanting to learn more which also helps increase exposure of articles. Another thing that will be included a lot in these publications is products that will appeal to the audience. So somebody who is always intrigued by the new products to hit the high street and new styles in season will be really beneficial to the brands identity.
